SUPPORTING THE HUMANS AT THE HEART OF THE CLASSROOM

The classroom can be a threshold for so much growth, and also sometimes struggle. At Glow State Psychology, I sit in the space where education meets wellbeing. Whether it's helping a young person understand their neurodivergent mind through assessment or therapy, or providing a protected place for dedicated teachers to process the weight of teaching demands, my goal is the same: to foster a sense of presence and acceptance. Through evidence-based care and a gentle sureness in my manner, I work with students and educators alike to navigate the challenges of school life, moving toward a place of clarity and connection.

SCHOOL AVOIDER TURNED SCHOOL PSYCHOLOGIST

Welcome, I'm Kate!

When I was growing up school didn’t seem to fit me, or I didn't seem to fit it.  In my house it was called ‘The Feeling’. I liked to learn, but I didn’t like to learn at school. After university, I launched my career working in schools (a place I never thought I'd work.) It was clear to me then, I didn't want others to feel the same unease I had felt in school. I believe everyone deserves access to education, to read, to write, to form their own ideas, and to share their passions.

If your child is struggling with learning, having a hard time finding their place at school, or if the walk through the school gate feels impossible, you're not alone. At Glow State Psychology, I provide comprehensive psychology assessments to formally identify neurodivergent minds and learning differences. Alongside this, I offer therapeutic support designed to help children and teenagers navigate their school life with a sense of growing confidence and understanding of themselves.

My other area of practice is for the dedicated teacher who finds themselves navigating intrusive thoughts, irritability, or exhaustion. Whether you are trying to make sense of a specific critical incident or dealing with the incremental stress of the modern classroom, I offer a place to set that weight down. I use evidence-based approaches like ACT and EMDR to support you. At Glow State Psychology, I work with the aim to help you feel more present and reconnected to the reasons you work in education in the first place and the joy of teaching. ā€‹ā€‹

Assessment Services

COGNITIVE AND EDUCATIONAL ASSESSMENTS

Cognitive and educational assessments provide a comprehensive understanding of a student’s learning profile, identifying strengths and challenges to support their academic growth. We evaluate areas such as cognitive functioning, academic achievement, working memory, attention, and executive functioning. The process includes a formal report with clear results and recommendations tailored to the student’s unique needs. Whether addressing learning difficulties such as dyslexia or dysgraphia, attention concerns, or giftedness, the process provides families and educators with a summary of the learners current profile to support the implementation of effective support strategies at school. ā€‹

AUTISM AND ADHD ASSESSMENTS

Neurodevelopmental psychology assessments focus on formally identifying and understanding Autism and ADHD. Through the assessment process I am curious about the way a person experiences their environment and senses, their interests, and their relationships. Whether you are seeking a formal confirmation of your neurodivergent identity, a deeper sense of self-knowledge, or a collaborative way through specific challenges, I am here to talk with you. Together, we look for your strengths, acknowledge the hurdles, and work to understand the whole of who you are.

THERAPEUTIC SUPPORT FOR CHILDREN AND ADOLESCENTS

When a young person is grappling with school anxiety, the demands of ADHD, or coping with the classroom when struggling to read,  therapy becomes a gentle container for big, overwhelming feelings. My approach uses evidence-based therapeutic approaches to help children and teenagers not just manage their symptoms, but notice their internal world and social world, advise themselves wisely, and commit to moves that are important to them. This support often involves collaborative parent sessions—because you’re their anchor—and targeted school consultations to ensure a consistent, supportive environment.

Services are available with Medicare rebates with a referral from a GP. During our initial appointment, we will discuss recommended frequency for appointments and the planned duration of therapy. I have limited capacity for after school appointments each term.

THERAPEUTIC SUPPORT FOR TEACHERS

The pressure teachers face today—the workload, the weight of their students' struggles, and the systemic challenges—can manifest as stress, anxiety and depression, or vicarious trauma. I’ve spent countless hours in schools, not as an insider caught in the politics, but as the school psychologist gently positioned one step removed from the immediate school community. This vantage point has offered me a clear, non-judgmental lens into the stressors of a teacher's career. My goal is to create a proctected space where your professional armour can finally drop. The therapy I offer is informed by ACT, EMDR and polyvagal theory, focusing on helping you clarify your core values as an educator, create distance from overwhelming thoughts and feelings, and commit to actions that bring vitality back into your life, both inside and outside the classroom. It's about finding the quiet strength to navigate your days without being consumed by them.
